Saint Valentine was a Roman Catholic priest who was also a doctor and lived in Italy during the 3rd century AD.
Saint Valentine became famous because he secretly celebrated marriages, since many couples were in love and could not legally marry in Rome because Emperor Claudius II prohibited it. Upon finding out that Valentine was secretly celebrating weddings, Claudius ordered his arrest and sentenced him to death on February 14, 270. For this reason, Valentine´s Day is commemorated every year.

WINTER ANIMALS
It can be difficult for animals to live in places that receive large amount of snow, such as in the high latitudes and at high elevations. Snowy places tend to receive less sunlight, which decreases temperatures and makes it hard for animals to stay warm. Deep snow can also be difficult to move around in; animals must spend more time and energy walking through it or finding food beneath it.
Some animals have adapted to co-exist with the cold, Deer, elk, bison, Penguins, Alatrosses, Foxes, those animals that lives in the low temperatures places. To help retain warmth throughout the winter, they grow thicker, shaggier coats, which they shed in the spring when the weather becomes warm again.

Hibernation
Deep snow can prevent some animals from finding food, but it also acts likr a blanket, keeping the ground beneath it warmer than the surrounding air temperature. Some animals take advantage of snow´s insulation, and cope with the cold season by building in a protective den or burrow and going into a deep, long sleep, a process called hibernation.
Bears and groundhogs, for instance, build up fat reserves in the fall so they can survive hibernating through the snowy winter months, usually not waking again until spring.

Hibernate Song π
Migration
Some animals simply leave snowy, cold regions during the toughest seasons. Arctic terns, for example spend the Northern Hemisphere summer in the Arctic, and then migrate to Antartica for the Southern Hemisphere summer.
Migration can also happen over the shorter distances; Deer and elk in the Rocky Mountains of the United States tend to migrate down into valleys during the winter.

BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE
We all love butterflies for their beautiful, brightly -coloured wings. But did you know that these fab flyers begin life as something completely different? As they grow, they undergo one seriously terrific transformation - a process known as"metarmorphosis".
Stage 1: the egg. It all starts when a female butterfly lays her eggs, usually on leaves or stems of plants. Inside these tiny eggs, caterpillars grow. Depending on the species, the eggs can vary in shape and texture -they can be round, oval or cylindrical, and smooth, bumpy or wrinkled.
Stage 2: the caterpillar. Once ready, the caterpillar leaves its egg home and enters the big outside world! And these little critters have one serious appetite - they actually eat their way out of the egg and inmediately start chomping on the leaves of the host plant. During this stage, they shed their skin four or five times - as the caterpillar grows, its skin becomes too tight and splits open, revealing a new larger skin undernearth. A fully grown caterpillar can be over 100 times larger than when it emerged from its egg. wow!!!!
Stage 3: the pupa. Once fully grown, the caterpillar forms itself into a "pupa", a kind of vessel in which the caterpillar changes into a butterfly. They usually do this on twigs or safe, hidden areas around the host plant.
Stage 4: the butterfly. Once the buuterfly is ready to emerge, the case around the pupa splits open. But it´s not time for take off just yet, as the wings are at first wet, soft and wrinkled againts its body. The butterfly waits for its wings to dry. Once fit for flight, this brilliant bug then takes to the air in search for flowers to feed on and for other butterflies to mate with.

FROG LIFE CYCLE
Frogs are animals that form part of Amphibians class. That means that they can live in water or on land. The life cycle of a frog goes through four stages of life.
Stage 1: the egg. The egg is the first phase of the life cycle of a frog. A female frog lays a lot of egg usually in or near water. Eggs are covered in jelly like substance which make them slippery. The jelly protects them from other animals eating the eggs. Now the eggs are ready to hatch into tadpoles.
Stage 2: Tadpole. The tadpole is the second phase of a frog´s life cycle. Tadpoles hatch from eggs. When the tadpoles is disgusted, it does not look exacly like a frog, but rather like a fish. Tadpole has no legs, at this point of its life cycle. It breathes using gills and moves like a fish. It uses its long tail to swim. They eat small water plants and algae. In this stage, the tadpole begins to have two hind legs and has a long body along with its head. With the help of the two hind legs it can easily jump around instead of just swimming.
Stage 3: Froglet. In this stage the lungs and two front legs also grow. Its long tail becomes shorter and shorter. Due to the lungs, the froglet also floats above the water to breathe air.
Stage 4: Adult Frog. Now it is perfectly fit to leave the water and live on the land. The frog´s tail desappears completely and insects and insects also start eating.

VOLCANOS
Avolcano is formed when hot molten rock, ash and gases escape from an opening in the Earth´s surface. The molten rock and ash solidify as they cool, forming the distinctive volcano shape shown here. As a volcano erupts, it spills lava that flows downslope.

WEEK 4: Animals that lives in The Savanna
THE SAVANNA
The Savanna forms part of Africa. It is a tropical grassland with warm temperatures year-round and with its highest seasonal rainfall in the summer. One of the more spectacular sights in nature is the animals of the African Savanna. Because the savanna is so rich in grasses and gtree life, many large herbivores (plant eaters) live here and congregate in large herds. These include zebras, wildebeests, elephants, giraffes, ostriches, gazelles and buffalo. There are many powerful predators too roaming the savanna including lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, black mambas and wild dogs.

Father´s Day is a celebration that honours the role of fathers and forefathers. It is a modern holiday though the ancient Romans did have a tradition of honouring fathers, every February, but only those who had deceased. In Ireland Father´s Day is celebrated on 21th June.
Around the World, Father´s Day is celebrated on different dates, though the day is celebrated in a similar manner, usually involving giving to fathers and family activities.
Bears are mammals that belong to the family Usidae:
The Sun Bear can be as small as four feet long and about 60 pounds.
The Polar Bear can be as big as eight feet long and more than thousands pounds.
They are found in the mountains, throughout of North merica, Soth America, Europe and Asia. Coomon characteristics of modern bears include bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, small rounded ears, shaggy hair, big paws and short tails.
Bears can live up to 25 years in the wild and 50 in captivity. There are six species of bears, including the Polar bear.

Diversity is the range of different things and it is very important because the world is changing every day. In the world, there are people with so many different cultures, religions, races, etc. that make them uniques.
Everybody, including children must learn to acceptother types people´s styles of life, opinions and cultures in order to become productive citizens of the world.
As teachers, is our job to prepare children for the real world, and the real world is a very diverse one. We have the chance to teach children love and acceptance now, even if it is not being taugh at home.
We do that through the Multiculturalism as a way of approaching cultural diversity within a classroom. Using books or stories about diversity is a very good way to teach cildren to learn to respect and accept others independently of their skin colour, opinion, ability or likes.
Besides, tolerance plays a very important role within multiculturalism because it´s the ability to apply adequate patience to the existence of what we dislike, that is different or disagree with our opinions.
What does the diversity mean?

Discrimination and Racism
Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age or sex. But also can be refered to other aspects such as weight, religion, income level o disability.
Racism is the discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one´s own race is superior.
Talking about Discrimination and Racism with chidren is as important as when we talk about diversity because children notice when someone looks different that they do. They also notice when certain groups seem to be treated differently that others. And it´s very important teach them to learn to accept everybody without having account their culture, sex, skin colour, religion, ability, etc.
Talking about Discrimination and Racism can help kids appreciate diversity and better recognize discrimination when they see it.
